Is there anything wrong with a woman sunbathing topless at a family resort or beach?
A user of popular parenting website Mumsnet has sparked debate online by asking whether a woman sunbathing topless in a holiday resort around children is being “inappropriate.”
The person did not specify whether they had any children themselves but said that the woman in question had her children with her.
They said they felt “uncomfortable” by the woman.
Their post read:
“We are on holiday in a family resort in sunny country. There is a lady who keeps ending up on the sun loungers opposite us, who seems to enjoy lying topless by the pool every day. She has a son who looks about 15, and a daughter who looks about 5.
I think it’s really inappropriate to sunbathe topless on a family resort in full view of everyone and right by the toddler pool, and with her own son around. Am I being unreasonable in feeling uncomfortable and wishing she’d cover up??”
Many said that the user was being “unreasonable” and that there was no reason for them to be uncomfortable.
One person said “What exactly is offensive about her breasts – are they spouting curse words as people go past? I assume you’re also offended by any topless man around as well?”
While many people responding to the post thought it was fine for a women to sunbathe topless around children some did say that understood why the woman was uncomfortable.
One user said that they “wouldn’t hugely like someone sunbathing topless in a family resort.”
Another argued that there is “sexual arousal associated with” boobs so they should not be on display.
Today I want to know what you think.
